The Club is proud to run a junior section and promote cricket as much as we can, particularly in our local community.
The Junior section in 2019 will continue the same number of teams as we expanded to in 2017. We’ll be running 3x Under 9 teams, 3x Under 11 teams, 2 x Under 13 teams, an Under 15 side and an Under 19 side. We believe this is the best way of making sure the players we have get the best chance of playing games. It will again prove to be difficult logistically but we’re used to it now! We will be helped by the number of volunteers, for whom the club and I are very grateful.
Our club training night will remain on Fridays this year, starting 26 April 2019 at 6:15. All coaching sessions are run by ECB qualified coaches, who have been DBS (formerly CRB) checked and are qualified first aiders.
I’m delighted that we have signed up again to the ECB initiative All Stars Cricket. This is designed to increase participation in the sport and aimed at 5-8 year old boys and girls. This is in addition to the teams we run above and it will be great to see more kids get involved. You can get full details and sign up using www.ecb.co.uk/play/all-stars
Many of our past juniors (me included) have gone on to represent the club at senior level and our policy is to promote junior players as and when appropriate. Players are also nominated to attend trials for representative teams and the Pathways to Excellence scheme run by the Yorkshire Cricket Board.
The clubhouse bar will continue to open on Friday training evenings and as many matches as possible, so that parents can enjoy a drink, have a chat and see what goes on. Please come and support as many of the games as you can, it is much appreciated.
Any junior player wishing to join the club or anyone interested in volunteering should contact me on 07919 344194.
