About Us

Clifton Alliance Cricket Club was born out of the merger, in 1974, of Alliance Cricket Club and Clifton Hospital Cricket Club.

The origins of Clifton Hospital CC go back to 1867, with games played on the current ground since that date. Alliance CC evolved in 1950 out of The Baptists CC, founded in 1928, and had their home ground on the York Knavesmire.

The club fought hard to purchase the current ground from the Health Authority in 1992 and built the current pavilion in 1996.

Junior Cricket

Clifton Alliance has a thriving junior section and club/school links with our local primary schools and Canon Lee Secondary School.

Clifton Alliance was a founder member of the York & District Junior Cricket Association in 1975. We run teams in the Under 9, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 19 age groups. The under 15s train between 6.15pm and 8.00pm on Tuesday evenings whilst coaching sessions for all other juniors take place each Friday evening between 6.15pm and 8.00pm (mid-April to mid-July). All coaching sessions are run by ECB qualified coaches, who have been DBS checked and are qualified first aiders.

Many of our past juniors have gone on to represent the club at senior level and our policy is to promote junior players as and when appropriate. Players are also nominated to attend trials for representative teams and the Pathways to Excellence scheme run by the Yorkshire Cricket Board.

Clifton Alliance is proud to have accreditation to Sport England’s Clubmark scheme. The scheme is a cross-sport accreditation for sports clubs with junior sections in recognition of a quality club. We continually work within the Clubmark framework to improve our standing as a community cricket club.

Clifton Alliance Cricket Club enjoys a vibrant Social scene and we encourage players, members, family and friends to attend our many events during the year.Pic 1

Thursday night is Quiz Night and the bar opens at 8.30pm every week.

The club is also open for a variety of events. We open regularly on Saturdays in the close season to show live sporting events on satellite and terrestrial TV and we hold other popular events such as a Golf Day, Wine Tasting, Spring Brunch, Bonfire Night and Christmas Dinner.
